January 2012 Update

Mary Grace has moved to a new boarding house that would be more suitable for   her to concentrate on her studies.  College students in Surigao City usually stay in a boarding house with 5-15 people of the same sex that may be working in the city or going to school.  A monthly fee includes a bed as well as your contribution towards electricity or other expenses. Food and toiletries are personal expenses.

Some boarding houses charge extra if you own an iron because ironing your school or work uniform everyday uses more electricity. Most businesses and all schools require a uniform.  Consideration as to who your room mates will be is important as well as the house rules. Some boarding houses have very lenient rules which allow partying while some are very strict with a curfew and don’t allow visitors.

Mary Grace made the decision to find a new boarding house that would allow her to concentrate better on her studies. She takes the blessing of her Scholarship very seriously, as evidenced by a 93.8 average and wants to make the most of the remaining school year.  Her school year ends in April and resumes again in June. Continue to pray for Mary Grace and for continued funding for the remainder of her year and other possible candidates.

Mary Grace Sets The Standard

Mary Grace is home for a Semester break. She has 3 more semesters for her to finish her course. She has blossomed and we have noticed a new confidence in her!

During a recent event held at her school, where many attended, she was given opportunity to present a musical number. She chose “How great is our God”. In spite of being very nervous, she chose to witness to teachers and students alike about her God. As she sang and played the guitar, He reminded her of how great He was by providing an opportunity for her schooling.

Mary Grace’s excellent grade average of 93.8 is one that is an inspiration to other youth and sets the standard for this Scholarship Program. Hope for a brighter future is within the reach of others who chose to qualify for this ministry. She has definitely taken on the role of a mentor and inspiration for other youth on the island.

In order for us to enable Mary Grace to continue, we will need to have the funding ready for her. Presently we have enough funding only up until March. We are also in the process of identifying others youth who may qualify. We trust God for the funding that will change the future for these young people and ask that you join us in faith!

The reality is that Mary Grace and other youth come from families who do not know where their next meal is coming from at times.  Education leads to employment that in turn will help better the life for the entire family.
