If there is to be any hope for development and a future for the young of Siargao Island, education has to be valued and given priority. Unfortunately many circumstances limit and in fact prevent education from advancing on our island. The devastating effects of this can be seen at every turn when education is not given the importance it deserves. Hope for the Island started the Foundational Learning Center (FLC) preschool in 2004 as a way to provide early childhood education with specific objectives for the development of children. This school has filled a void by getting children off to a good start with a solid educational foundation. Institute for Foundational Learning curriculum is combined with Phonics (sing, spell, read and write) to develop children spiritually, socially, academically and physically. By using a Biblical based curriculum the impact is far reaching. As children understand their identity in Christ, it ignites a flame of hope where the impossible becomes possible in the Lord. As many as 45 students are enrolled in our school each year.
