SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Skills and education typically bring about employment which would generate an income for families and result in an eventual decline in poverty. The students in our neighbouring village of Burgos don't have the same opportunities that are available in the western world. Their family can’t help pay for their education nor can the student gain employment to fund their schooling. The sad fact is that the majority of high school students know that they have no chance of further education past High School. The closest college is located in Surigao City on another island - Mainland Mindanao. Motivation decreases & dropout rates increase.
Scholarship Program provides the means for 2 yr. College Education courses to qualifying graduates who meet the criteria set out by HOPE.
Qualifications:
We would like to see at least an 80% grade average but all other factors will be taken into consideration. Those who attend weekly Youth Ministry, Discipleship classes and are involved in community service with HOPE will have priority. They must exemplify good attitudes and participation as volunteer at HOPE and Kids Ministry.
Scholarship bracket system:
Full or partial funding will depend on whether or not their family has an income source.
Accountability:
Regular follow up / ministry times will be made by HOPE staff to ensure Scholars are developing academically as well as spiritually during the course of their studies.
Post graduate commitment:
Upon completion of the 2 year course each graduate will be required to serve 1 year at HOPE. Volunteer certification and recommendation for employment will be provided at the completion of the year.
